Our Antique Steam Boiler Services

We employ masterful welders and fabricators who are certified in various procedures and produce the highest-quality work. Our experts offer the following services for steam boilers:

The Strasburg Rail Road Boiler Shop is the first steam locomotive repair shop in the United States to receive ASME “S” Stamp and NBIC “R” Stamp certifications. This means our boiler components are built in accordance with the requirements of the ASME and NBIC which is the national and international construction and repair standards.

ASME S Stamp Certification:

The ASME S Stamp certification, issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), is a mark of quality and compliance for the design, fabrication, and inspection of power boilers, including those used in steam locomotive engines.

NBIC R Stamp

Key Points:

  1. Quality Assurance: The ASME S Stamp signifies that the manufacturer has demonstrated compliance with rigorous standards set forth by ASME, ensuring the quality and safety of the boiler.
  2. Expertise and Compliance: To obtain the ASME S Stamp, manufacturers must adhere to stringent design, fabrication, and inspection processes outlined in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC).
  3. Regulatory Recognition: The ASME S Stamp is widely recognized and accepted by regulatory authorities, demonstrating compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  4. Continuous Compliance: Manufacturers with the ASME S Stamp must undergo regular audits and inspections to maintain certification, ensuring ongoing adherence to quality and safety standards.

NBIC R Stamp Certification:

The National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) R Stamp certification is another vital accreditation related to boiler maintenance, repair, and alteration. It is issued by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

Key Points:

  1. Authorized Repairs: The NBIC R Stamp signifies that a company is authorized to perform repairs and alterations on boilers and pressure vessels, including those used in steam locomotive trains.
  2. Safety and Compliance: Holders of the NBIC R Stamp must adhere to strict guidelines outlined in the NBIC, ensuring that repairs and alterations are conducted safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  3. Expertise and Competency: Companies with the NBIC R Stamp are recognized for their expertise and competency in boiler repair and maintenance, instilling confidence in their ability to uphold safety standards.
  4. Third-Party Oversight: The NBIC R Stamp program involves third-party oversight and regular audits to verify compliance with NBIC requirements, ensuring accountability and quality assurance.

Our boilermakers are driven by results and passion. Whether it’s producing flanged boiler sheets or using flanging machinery, these certifications provide assurance that the work meets rigorous standards set forth by industry authorities. By partnering with certified manufacturers and service providers, steam locomotive operators can ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of their equipment for years to come.
